TRICK OR TREAT The history behind the spooky myth

Right now, lots of people are celebrating Halloween around the world. Even here, in Argentina, which has become a kind of "national" celebration. But few people know about its meaning and origin. Here´s there is some information about such celebration. The word "Halloween" is a Scottish word that means " All Hallows Eve", that is the day before All Saints Day. and the Day of the Dead. It is related to the end of summer, the end of the "harvest season".

Some people believe that Halloween has got a satanic root. It is said that it is the most important celebration for the Devil´s worshippers. But for most of people nowadays, Halloween is a pagan celebration when you can get the chance to eat candy, tell ghost stories, wear costumes, go around the neighbourhood, sing and dance.

"Trick or treat"

These two words form the essential core of the celebration. Tradition says that kids go around their neighbourhoods, knocking each neighbour´s door. They say "Trick or treat", hoping that the neighbour in turn replies " Treat". If it is so, children get candy. "Trick" means that if they don ´t get any piece of candy, they will do a mischief to that neighbour.

Some people in countries other than the USA argue that Halloween should not be celebrated as it is not a "national" festivity. Anyway, there are so many myths and exciting ghost stories that contribute to make Halloween worth celebrating.

Enjoy it 2 night!
